Composite Mode

Screen and camera in one frame

Record screen and camera into a single picture-in-picture composition with Metal-accelerated scene switching. OBS-style scenes and sources panels, source presets, overlay style presets, and drop-free recording at 30 to 60 fps.

Virtual Teleprompter

Read your script while recording

A floating overlay auto-scrolls your script on top of your screen. Multi-script editor, adjustable speed, and global hotkeys. The overlay never appears in recordings.

Does Lumary work on Intel Macs?

Yes, Lumary supports both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 15.0 or later. Apple Silicon delivers the best performance for high-resolution and ProRes recording.

Can I record system audio?

Yes, Lumary captures system audio through ScreenCaptureKit with no additional software or drivers required.

Does transcription require an internet connection?

Only for the initial one-time model download. After that, transcription runs entirely on-device via Whisper and Apple Neural Engine. No audio data ever leaves your Mac.

What's the maximum recording length?

There's no software limit. Recording length is limited only by available storage. Fragmented MP4 output protects long sessions from data loss.

Can I use Lumary for live streaming?

Lumary is designed for recording, not live streaming. However, composite recording with scene switching works great for producing polished video content.

Does Lumary support multiple displays?

Yes. Record from any connected display, record multiple displays simultaneously, and draw annotations on any display independently.

Where are my recordings saved?

You choose the output folder. Lumary creates a session directory for each recording containing all media files, manifests, transcripts, and captions.

Can I record just a window instead of the full screen?

Yes, Lumary supports full display, single window, and specific application capture. You can also exclude sensitive apps from being captured.

Do annotations appear in the recording?

Yes. Annotations always appear in the captured video. The annotation toolbar can be shown or hidden from recordings via the eye/REC toggle.

Does the teleprompter appear in recordings?

No. The teleprompter overlay is invisible to screen capture. Only you can see it.

Can I control Lumary from Stream Deck?

Yes. The Stream Deck plugin (available on the Elgato Marketplace) provides 19 actions including recording control, markers, scene switching, annotation, teleprompter, and presentation tools. The record button shows a live elapsed time display.
