v2.0
April 28, 2026Faster Recording, Cleaner Sessions & Lower Resource Use
What's New
Redesigned Source Setup
The recording sidebar has been reorganized around the workflow users follow before recording: choose screen sources, choose camera sources, choose audio sources, then adjust advanced options only when needed.
Source Summary Cards
- Screen, Camera, Audio, and Advanced are now shown as clear cards instead of one long dense control list.
- Selected sources are listed individually, with a remove button next to each one.
- Multi-source summaries no longer collapse into hard-to-read
Source A + Source Btext. - Preset controls are labeled as recording presets, making it clearer that the menu saves and restores screen, camera, and audio choices.
Source Selection Sheets
- Screen and camera source pickers now use a consistent modal layout and sizing.
- Display, camera, and microphone pairing controls are grouped under the source they affect.
- Window selection includes thumbnails, with a dedicated preview button so similarly named windows are easier to identify.
- Camera source options are organized into Capture, Image, Look, and Audio sections.
Mic Pairing
- Microphones can now be paired with display recordings as well as camera recordings.
- Camera and display mic pairings persist across app restarts.
- Paired video+mic outputs still keep standalone audio available for editing.
Recording Performance & Reliability
Faster Start
- Recording preparation now runs during the countdown instead of after it.
- Turning countdown off no longer leaves a long wait before recording starts.
- Camera recording gets a short warm-up before capture to reduce black/frozen frames at the start.
- When macOS camera effects are enabled, Lumary waits for visible effects such as Portrait, Studio Light, and Background Replacement before writing the first camera frame.
Better Color Accuracy
- Screen recordings now preserve the intended Display P3 + sRGB transfer metadata more accurately.
- Native H.264/MP4 screen exports now use a controlled export path so exported files keep the same color metadata as the raw capture.
- H.264/MP4 export settings no longer use invalid wide-color keys that could crash AVFoundation.
Lower Resource Use
- Standard source previews pause while recording by default to reduce CPU and memory usage.
- Previews return automatically after recording stops.
- A recording monitor can be toggled on during recording when live visual monitoring is needed.
- When the monitor is off, Lumary avoids running the extra preview work.
Preview Stability
- Fixed preview freeze after stopping a recording.
- Preview state now resets more reliably between recording and idle states.
- Screen previews handle empty or unavailable display content more gracefully.
Sessions & Projects
The sessions experience has been rebuilt around projects, multi-select actions, and in-app review.
Project Browsing
- The Sessions window now has a labeled Project dropdown.
- Sessions can be viewed by project or grouped across all projects.
- Session lists default to a stable recorded-time order.
- Project and course paths are shown consistently in the sidebar.
Multi-Session Actions
- Cmd-click and Shift-click can select multiple sessions.
- Multi-selection exposes common actions: export, clean capture data, and delete.
- Selection actions now use consistent icon + label buttons.
- Context menus expose the same cleanup and delete actions where appropriate.
In-App Session Review
- Session details now include an in-app Preview tab for playable source and export files.
- Users can inspect recordings without opening Finder and hunting for files.
- Details, exports, markers, and transcript content are organized into tabs.
Storage Cleanup
- Clean Capture Data is available from session rows, multi-select actions, and the sessions toolbar.
- Export cleanup is more prominent and enabled by default.
- Cleanup removes
.captureand.deriveddata after successful export while keeping exported files. - Root-level paired exports are cleaned up consistently with package exports.
Export Improvements
Export UI
- Export settings are split into clearer Video and Audio sections.
- Audio format, sample rate, bitrate, and mono/stereo channel controls are visible again.
- Cleanup after export is presented as a recommended action.
- Re-export no longer silently overwrites existing outputs.
Export Behavior
- Batch export handles multiple sessions more consistently.
- Paired display/camera microphone recordings export without losing standalone audio.
- Exported media mirrors and package exports are tracked more reliably in the session manifest.
- Raw capture cleanup respects paired microphone outputs and package media.
Course Mode
Course mode now uses the same design treatment as standard session mode.
- Course selection mirrors project selection.
- Course path is shown below the course picker.
- Course preflight, progress, and outline sections have cleaner card styling.
- Course sidebar layout is more consistent with the redesigned session sidebar.
Appearance
- Added an app theme setting so Lumary can follow the system appearance, stay dark, or stay light.
- Fixed a launch crash caused by applying appearance before the shared app instance was available.
Stream Deck Plugin
The Stream Deck plugin has been updated for Lumary 2.0.
- Removed Circle and Retake actions from the plugin.
- Updated plugin actions to match the current recording workflow.
- Improved URL command handling and plugin connection behavior.
- Updated the plugin package version and submission documentation.
Fixed
- Fixed color mismatch between recorded screen output and live display.
- Fixed native H.264/MP4 screen exports losing Display P3/sRGB color metadata.
- Fixed crash when configuring H.264 wide color output.
- Fixed repeated screen recording permission prompts when permissions were already granted.
- Fixed preview freeze after stopping a recording.
- Fixed duplicate or leftover export files when re-exporting.
- Fixed cleanup leaving paired mic files behind.
- Fixed camera recordings starting with black/frozen frames.
- Fixed the first camera frame being recorded before macOS camera effects were applied.
- Fixed paired mic settings not persisting across restart.
- Fixed session/project folder naming creating duplicate directories for new projects.
- Fixed right sidebar recording cards missing the same border treatment as other sections.
- Fixed Settings appearance crash on app launch.
