Idle Preview Control, Background Removal, and MCP Support

What's New

Preview Before Recording

Lumary now lets you turn off live source previews even when you are not recording.

  • Added a new Preview Before Recording switch in Settings > Preview.
  • Turning this off stops the idle preview capture session for selected screens, windows, apps, and cameras.
  • The main preview area shows a lightweight disabled-preview status panel while idle preview capture is off.
  • Source selections, output settings, preflight checks, and recording behavior stay unchanged.
  • The setting defaults on, so existing users keep the same live preview behavior unless they opt out.

This is useful when you want Lumary ready to record without keeping screen or camera preview capture active in the background.

Composite Background Removal

Composite mode now ships two background removal options for camera layers.

  • Open the Style popover for a selected camera layer to find the new Background Removal section with Off, Green Screen, and Apple modes.
  • Green Screen runs an OBS-style chroma key with built-in presets for broadcast green and broadcast blue, plus a free-form color picker. Sliders for Similarity, Smoothness, and Spill tune the key in real time, and a one-click Auto Key samples the current frame to derive settings from the visible backdrop.
  • Apple uses the system person segmentation matte to isolate the presenter without a green screen, with Edge Cutoff, Edge Softness, Green Cleanup, and Spill Cleanup controls for fine-tuning.
  • Both modes run inside the existing single-pass Metal compositor, so there's no extra preview latency or separate encoder pass.
  • Disabled by default; existing layouts are unchanged.

Composite Preview Control

Composite mode now respects the same idle preview setting while keeping scene controls available.

  • When Preview Before Recording is off, Composite mode pauses the live canvas before recording starts.
  • Scene, source, layout, and style controls remain visible and editable.
  • The paused composite canvas explains that idle preview capture is stopped from Settings.
  • During active recording, Composite mode keeps its existing lightweight status view behavior.

MCP Support

Lumary now works with Claude Desktop, Codex CLI, and other MCP-compatible apps. Once connected, you can use natural-language shortcuts in those apps to start a recording, switch composite scenes, run the teleprompter, change projects, drop markers, build a DaVinci Resolve timeline, and read back session info.

  • New MCP Integration toggle in Settings > Integrations (off by default).
  • One-click connect for Claude Desktop and Codex CLI. Lumary opens the standard macOS file picker, asks you to confirm the destination, and only modifies its own entry in the chosen file.
  • A live status indicator shows when a connected app is active. A recent-actions panel lists each shortcut as it happens so you can see what just ran. Both reset when Lumary closes.
  • Prompt examples are built into Settings so you can copy and try them right away.
  • New Create Resolve Timeline action lets the assistant pick which sessions to include (or use the latest N), order them, and produce an FCPXML you can import into DaVinci Resolve via File > Import > Timeline. Same FCPXML pipeline as the in-app sheet; references captured media directly, no transcode.

The integration is opt-in, runs locally on your Mac, and turns off completely the moment you disable the toggle.

Improved

  • Preview settings changes now notify the preview lifecycle so idle preview capture starts or stops immediately when the setting changes.
  • The preview canvas now has a distinct idle-disabled state separate from the recording-disabled status panel.

Fixed

  • Fixed the preview system assuming live preview should always run while idle.
  • Fixed Composite mode continuing to show live idle preview when the user wants preview capture disabled outside recording.
  • Fixed Apple background removal applying upside-down on exported composites, so the silhouette landed in the wrong half of the frame and the green backdrop stayed visible.
  • Fixed "Publishing changes from within view updates" warnings when changing the Background Removal mode in the Style popover.
  • Fixed the composite preview and the recorded composite output disagreeing on camera position on retina displays. Preview now uses the same native pixel canvas as recording, so a camera dragged to the top-right corner in the preview lands in the top-right corner of the recorded file.
  • Fixed the Edge Padding slider in the Style popover snapping a dragged-positioned camera back to its anchor base. Adjusting Edge Padding now only changes the margin; the dedicated Reset Position button is still there for clearing the offset.
  • Removed a duplicate Open Editor button under the Green Screen section of the Style popover. The inline Edit… button next to Auto already opens the same editor.
  • Lowered the default overlay corner radius from 12 px to 0 px. Brand-new camera layouts now ship with square corners; existing saved layouts keep their stored value.

Requirements

  • macOS 15.0 (Sequoia) or later
  • Stream Deck 6.9+ (for Stream Deck integration)
